When one company launches something then you can guarantee that another will very soon follow in its footsteps. I have always leaned towards the full on lipstick look and glosses and balms have been more a summer thing. But over the years the pigment strength in these new balms have really improved and the textures are so smoothing and hydrating that I have dabbled more into the non-lipstick varieties out there. Clinique launched its Chubby Sticks for the lips and soon after Revlon followed with their version Just Bitten Kissable.
I bought the Revlon to see what all the fuss was about with these chubby lip balm things. I liked the strong colour, it felt ok, though a little grainy and as expected the balm consistency didn’t last as long but re-application isn’t a problem. The top colour is the Clinique shade Chunky Cherry a warm pink/red shade and beneath is Revlon’s in Rendezvous an orange/red shade.
The Clinique chubby stick was a gift for Christmas and as soon as I tried it, the difference between the two was obvious. Clinique formula is smoother, lips feel soft and hydrated, the colour is not as intense but it lasts longer.
Packaging is almost identical, the mechanism is the same, you twist as you would a lipstick to use the bullet. No sharpener is required.
I prefer the Clinique Chubby Stick to the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable, mainly for the texture of the product on the lips. Clinique do list Shea butter and mango as the properties that help keep lips hydrated and smooth. Revlon do mention hydrating lip balm but the ingredients are not listed on the Boots website where I purchased the product. There are more colour choices from Clinique, who have also developed chubby eye shadow sticks too. Clinique’s have sixteen shade choices to Revlon’s seven.
Clinique retail at £16,
Revlon retail at £7.99
